Dear State Representative / Senator,
As a New Mexico citizen, I urge you to take action to address the many issues that threaten the safety and viability of the cannabis industry in our state. When an industry is regulated, there exists an inherent trust in the safety of the products and services provided by that industry. It is imperative that the legislature put policies in place now to prevent the erosion of public trust in the regulated cannabis industry, which is, unfortunately, woefully under regulated.
Creating policies that strengthen the oversight and increase the resources of the Cannabis Control Division will help put an end to illegal activity and operations and enhance safety for all New Mexicans.
I urge you to support HB10 and call for a temporary pause on new licenses to give the state time to ramp up regulation and improve market compliance and viability.
Finally, it is imperative that we protect our children. We must prevent the influx of unregulated hemp-derived THC products. Not only are teenagers specifically targeted, but these products are easier for teens to get than alcohol.
Please support policies to save NM Cannabis now!
Sincerely,
Dear Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham,
As a concerned New Mexican, I am writing to urge you to take decisive action to protect public safety by issuing an executive order banning unregulated, hemp-derived THC products in our state. These unregulated and potentially harmful products undermine the integrity of New Mexico’s legal cannabis market and pose significant risks to consumers, particularly our youth.
Hemp-derived THC and related synthetic products, which often bypass the rigorous testing and safety standards required for regulated cannabis, are widely accessible in unlicensed venues. Reports from across the state indicate that these products are marketed deceptively, frequently targeting teens and other vulnerable populations. Unlike regulated cannabis, hemp-derived THC products are not subject to oversight by the Cannabis Control Division, creating a dangerous loophole in consumer protection.
Issuing an executive order to ban hemp-derived THC and related synthetic products would:
Your leadership has been instrumental in shaping New Mexico’s cannabis policies, and this bold step would further demonstrate your commitment to a safe, equitable, and sustainable cannabis market. By addressing the risks posed by hemp-derived THC products, we can prioritize public health and safety while supporting the many law-abiding businesses that contribute to our state’s economy.
I respectfully ask you to consider this urgent matter and act swiftly to protect New Mexicans from the dangers associated with unregulated hemp-derived THC products. Thank you for your continued leadership and dedication to our state.
Sincerely,
